First person to embrace Islam was Khadija. Abu Bakr as-Siddiq. Ali ibn Abi Talib

Zaid ibn Harith

Many accepted Islam through Abu Bakr - 'Abd Amr Auf, 'Abd Ubaidah Jarrah

al-Rahman, al-Rahim.

'Abd Amr renamed to become Abd al-Rahman ibn Auf.

They joined Islam, when there were no perks to being muslims. There was only hardships, but they endured them with the prophet saw.

Khalid ibn Sa'id, saw a dream where he was on the edge of a pit of fire, and his own father was pushing him in. Someone held him around his waist and keeps his from falling in, and he sees the face of al-Amin. He wakes up, and goes to a dream interpretor, Abu Bakr. Abu Bakr explains that Muhammad is a prophet of God.

Uthman ibn Affan - sleeping in desert.
Ahmad - most glorified.
'has come forth from Makkah'.

Talhah ibn Ubaydillah - cousin of Abu Bakr, also asked had Ahmad appeared.

Christians then knew Ahmad was the name of a prophet.

Uthman tells Talhah etc, who then talks to Abu Bakr and explains.

Both submit and become muslims.

Abdullah ibn Mas'ood - dark skin and short.
Asked for a drink - amanah.
Do you have an animal with no milk?
Prophet put hand on udder and it filled with milk.
He accepts Islam, and becomes one of Islam's greatest scholars and authorative reciters of Quran.

There was a period of silence in revelation.
Prophet saw was sleeping and Surat al-Mudathir 1-10 was revealed.

Surat al-Muzammil was also revealed later.

'Get up and keep vigil at night'.

Also revealed - warning of a great burden to come.

Jibril visited prophet - give unto Khadija greetings of peace from her Lord.
She replies - God is Peace and from Him is Peace and on Jibril peace.

Recognising her tremendous status among women and men.

Word started to get out about Islam.

Lessons :

- companions took revelation as instruction for them as well
- they started greeting with the 'greeting of the people of jannah' .. As-salam alai kum (kum meaning you - plural to include the 2 angels with them).
- give praise to Allah
- give thanks to Allah
- start recitation with Bismillah
- start every action, act of worship etc in Allah's name
- how quickly the companions applied the Qur'an in their daily lives
